New TDK MLCCs offer high performance in extreme temperatures

The new X8R series of multilayer ceramic chip capacitors (MLCCs) from TDK offers a wider operating temperature range and reduced temperature response to enable designs targeted at harsh environments such as automotive.

Across the devices' maximum operating temperature range of -55°C to 150°C, the variation in capacitance in response to temperature is +/- 15%.

The wider operating temperature range delivers greater reliability for electronic circuits in harsh environments, such as measuring instruments or on-vehicle control units placed in the engine room. The reduced temperature response offers enhanced precision for filter circuitry and time constant application in semi-high temperature ranges (up to 125°C).

Capacitance values are available immediately from 150pF up to 4.7µF. Across this range, component dimensions are offered from 3.20mm x 2.5mm down to 1.0mm x 0.5mm. The X8R series is available now in taped, bulk or sample-books formats.
